Description terms and what they mean
A quick little walkthrough of what all the different terms in the flower's description mean for those starting out:
Suitable for beginners: Refers to how easy a flower is to sprout. Almost all flowers are beginner friendly.
Sowing method: Refers to how you can sow (or plant) a seed. There are two options:
- Direct - sowing directly into the garden bed or pot.
- Raise seedlings - starting the seeds out in trays before transfering to the garden bed or pot.
Life cycle: Basically how long a plant will live. There are three options:
- Annual - this means the plant completes its lifecycle in 1 year. Often used as cut flowers.
- Biennial - similar to annual except its life cycle lasts 2 years.
- Perennial - plants regrow every year.
Plant height: How high the plant will grow when fully matured.
Season: The best season to sow your seeds.
Spacing: How far apart you should plant your seeds. Although I chaos plant and never listen to it.
Sun requirements: Whether the plant needs access to full sun or can grow in part shade. Full sun generally means at least 6 hours of direct sun per day.
Soil requirements: What type of soil the plant needs. Generally well-draining.
Time to sprout: How long a plant will take to sprout based on certain temperatures. Always tied to the best season for sowing.
Days until fully grown: How long it will take the plant to be full grown.
